P D James, creator of the poet-detective
Commander Adam Dalglish, writes-
"Poetry is the national art form of the English and thousands
of people, young and old, write poems for their own pleasure without
necessarily expecting, or indeed seeking. publication. Francis
Bennion has been writing poems for over fifty years and although
a number have been published, his main interest has been in the
writing. Now, however, the poems he regards as his best have been
collected in his anthology Poemotions. Remarkably diverse in mood
and expression, the reader will find here - as I did - a special
poem to admire and remember."
FB admitted to Karl Miller
that this volume was 'embarrassing'. (No one should grow old who
isn't ready to appear ridiculous, said John Mortimer.) Karl wrote
back to say that the poems are indeed embarrassing 'but they are
also interesting'. He was sorry not to be more helpful 'but have
the feeling that the poems will do all right without words of
mine'.
