FB at Gosling's Bank

Published only on this website

Doc. No. 2008.006

FB served as a clerk at Gosling’s Branch of Barclays Bank, 19 Fleet Street, London EC4 in 1940-41 while waiting to be old enough to enlist as a pilot in the RAFVR (which he later did).

Gosling’s Branch was formerly the independent Gosling’s Bank. It used the sign of the Three Squirrels, which is still displayed at 19 Fleet Street. FB’s brief account of his bank service is included in the BBC WW2 People’s War archive. When leaving the bank to join the RAFVR, FB was given a reference.
