Letters to The Daily Telegraph

The Daily Telegraph (Letters)

29 Jun 2007

Doc. No. 2007.017 DT040L

Commons applause for Blair

Sir, As a member of the Conservative Party, I found the photograph of Conservative MPs standing to applaud Tony Blair on his Commons farewell utterly shameful. Breaking long-standing tradition to go comfortably along with false bonhomie about our prime opponent betrayed Tory values.

Andrew Gimson (Commons Sketch, 28 June 2007) says the protester who stood outside Downing Street with a placard reading “Good Riddance” found no one honest enough to utter the same words inside the Chamber. It is that sort of hypocrisy that puts people off politics.
